Amazon to develop a High-End Echo, Ramps up Work on Alexa Home Robot

Amazon is planning to introduce improved quality speakers and is also moving fast towards its work on the home robot.

The new Echo is expected to be released by the coming year i.e. 2020. The demo models are cylindrical and wider than the current Echo so as to fit in at least four tweeters.

The Echo is expected to give better sound quality and creating great competition for Alexa enabled Sonos speakers or Google’s Home Max speakers. However, in spite of Amazon’s efforts to build the highest market share, Google is still taking lead with around 31% share. This hardware is expected to create a market for Amazon thus enabling customers to buy Prime Video or Prime Music.

Not just that, Bloomberg also reported that Amazon has ramped up work on a home robot named Vesta. The company has apparently been assigning engineers from other projects to work on the project, a sign that it’s fairly serious about commercializing it.

From the internal information from Amazon, Alexa shall be mobile like a dog, moving behind you wherever you go delivering music or movies to any part of your house.  Alexa is about the waist-high, navigate with the help of an array of computer vision cameras and also responds to voice commands.

The company also seems to be working on Alexa-powered earphones to compete Airpods and a voice-activated wearable device that can recognize human emotions.

Both these devices- Echo and Alexa, the robot are being developed by AmazonLab126, a research and development arm based in Sunnyvale, California.
