Kelli Vassallo, who is an ex-basketball coach, admitted to having sex with a 17-year girl when she was a Basketball coach and also confessed to having molested another teenager, a 13-year-old girl.
The first offense was committed in 2009 when she had a sexual relationship with the 38-year-old girl student. The second offense with a minor was committed in 2013. The coach cum teacher it is facing prison term and probation as per the charges of institutional sexual assault and corruption of a minor.
A Williamsport Area High School teacher and the seventh-grade girls basketball coach from 2012 to 2015, Kelly Vassallo has been sentenced to two years in prison and ten years on probation. The older victim who was 17 at the time of the incidence is married now with a child and lives out of the state and claimed that initially they had fallen in love and had a consensual sexual relationship. However, she claims that it was Kelli who convinced here that it was normal to have that kind of relationship and blamed most of it on her mother.
The 13-year-old victim, however, blames it squarely on the offender. The girl is now 18 and testified that the coach cum teacher manipulated her and in a way, molested her. She has claimed that Kelli stole the most important years of her life and “she attacked her.”
The Lycoming County Judge Marc Lovecchio who pronounced the sentence was convinced that it was a serious offense and crime against children and even went on to say that ” it is just too kind to say they were betrayed’. Apart from the prison term that she will have to serve, Kelli Vassallo will also have to register herself as a Sex offender for the next 25 years. While n probation, she will have to perform 100 hours of community services as well.
The Williamsport district had already suspended Vassallo without any pay after allegations surfaced against her indecent conduct. In fact, there were two trials held separately as the second victim was only 13 at the time of the incident and there was enough evidence to show that the molestation went for over a year. This was in sharp contrast to the mutual consent in case of the sexual offense against the 17-year-old but amounted to institutional sexual assault.
