Google’s Pixel 4 Face Unlock Has One Major Privacy Weakness

Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL got released recently and it has created a buzz among the netizens due to its unique yet amazing features. Some of the features of the phone were never even heard before or even thought before. This includes car crash detection as well as the live video captioning. Well, among the amazing features provided by Google in Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, one is the face unlock mode. The phones are devoid of fingerprint scanning and have a special face unlock mode.

However, with this new detected major issue, this feature will come more as a disadvantage than a boon. The weakness of this face unlock mode is that it works even when the eyes of an individual are closed. This means that anyone can open the phone of the user through face unlock when he is sleeping. This is not it, the people can even unlock your phone when you are not paying attention just by placing the screen towards your face.

A support page about face unlock directly confirms as much. “Your phone can also be unlocked by someone else if it’s held up to your face, even if your eyes are closed. Keep your phone in a safe place, like your front pocket or handbag.”

According to the spokersperson from the company, “We don’t have anything specific to announce regarding future features or timing, but like most of our products, this feature is designed to get better over time with future software updates.”
